  • Enhanced first degree programmes typically include the equivalent of at least four years full-time study (five in Scotland), of which the equivalent of at least one year is at masters level.

  • A first degree, is the standard degree for undergraduate higher education. A typical undergraduate degree in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland involves the equivalent of three years full time study (four in Scotland).

  • A foundation degree is a qualification which combines academic study with work based learning, focussing on a particular job or profession. A foundation degree involves the equivalent of two years of full time study and allows progress onto a full first degree.

  • A Higher National Diploma (HND) is a work-related course. A full-time HND generally takes two years to complete, or three to four years part-time.

  • A Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a work-related course. A full time course generally takes one year to complete, or two years part-time.
